The orchestra festival was pretty silly. Apparently we got all 1’s (the best) on the performance, and a 2 on sight reading, but it was far from deserved. I’m still peeved about my solo, and Emika messing up didn’t help me much.
Either way, I realized with the sight reading clinician that the reason I’m not doing as well is Mr. Giel and Dr. Pritchard. They don’t… conduct in a way that I really get anything from it. The conductor is the essence of the orchestra, and an orchestra just playing music isn’t anywhere near as good (or fun) as feeling music.
Conversely, I was quite pleased with my piano recital yesterday, which is unusual given my personality. I feel like I prepared well, and I was mentally ready for the task. I was sort of nervous while listening to the person before me, but by the time it was my turn, I felt completely normal. Until I realized I wasn’t nervous, at which point I became nervous. Regardless, I really only made a few “mistakes” (I’d say 2 or 3) and I “messed up” once. Which will have to be acceptable.
