So my summer is complete.
For the 13th time, I’m getting ready for my first day of school.
I don’t know why exactly I’m so distraught about senior year. Sure, I’m excited to be seeing everyone again and to finally be finishing school. But there’s more of me that is tired of the useless nonsense we learn at school. And more of me that is tired of the useless scum that populate public high schools. I’m sick of the negativity that flows through hallways and minds from 7:30 to 2:10 every day. But this is a fact of life, and one that it is quite necessary to endure.
My summer was slightly less than successful. I didn’t see any of my friends, though I did talk to almost all of them. I didn’t work on anything. I didn’t learn. I lazed; I ate Hot Pockets; and I cut grass.
Though the latter portion was slightly less useless and definitively more enjoyable, I can’t help but feel that I’m missing part of the experience. Don’t get me wrong: my experiences at Bosch (Cabin 11/12 and Ed Brasco) were probably well worth the hundreds of dollars it cost for me to attend. My visit with my cousins wasn’t terribly exciting but truly fulfilling.
And I can’t help but feel I’m still missing that something. Something that isn’t going to come to me with a car or a two-week trip across the country.
I just finished reading a book on the importance of punctuation for AP Lang today.
There’s an important distinction between:
Where are you sunshine?
and
Where are you, sunshine?
And thusly, senior year begins…
